Research and development activities | February – June 2023
As a follow-up to the co-creation workshop with officials from the municipal assembly on September 29-30, 2022, in Nsawam, Ghana, and the design workshop with Ghanaian and German experts on December 12, 2022, at the University of Siegen, Germany five, main ICT based solutions were proposed for development.
- Teenage pregnancy – Information campaign and digitalized information story
- Digitalized welfare and health guide
- An ICT-based registration system for persons living with disabilities
- CHPS compounds with a telemedicine unit and attached social welfare contact point
- Review of citizen-communication systems in both districts
The five proposed solutions are being fully developed to be implemented in the Nsawam and Suhum municipalities between May and June 2023.
Validation workshops | 14 – 16 February 2022
Validation workshops were held at the halls of the Nsawam and Suhum municipal assemblies respectfully, to ensure that relevant stakeholders are informed of the interim results of data collected. It provided the avenue for discussing interim results and getting feedback from stakeholders to verify the accuracy of data findings. Present at the validation workshop were key stakeholders including the Municipal coordinating director, social welfare, planning, disability desk officers, ICT coordinators, assembly members, representatives of community-based organizations, traditional authorities, and heads of households.
Field studies | 25 October –3 December 2021
FACIL-ICT team led by Dr. Paul Kwaku Larbi Anderson, and Lars Wissenbach embarked on data collection exercises within the Nsawam/Adoagyiri and Suhum Municipalities in the eastern region of Ghana. The exercise involved the administration of questionnaires to respondents in several remote communities within the municipalities. Some of the communities visited included Akorabo, Owureko, kukua, Adarkwa, Asarekrom, Amanhyia, Akoti, Trio in the Suhum municipality, and Fotobi, Ahojo, Amanfrom, Oparekrom, Wangara, Sakyikrom, Ntoaso in the Nsawam/Adoagyiri municipality.
stakeholder meetings | 20-21 October 2021
stakeholder meetings were held on the 20th and 21st of October 2021 at the Nsawam-Adoagyiri and Suhum Municipal Assembly Halls respectively. This workshop brought together local government functionaries including the coordinating director of the Municipal Assembly, Assembly members, planning officers and directors of ICT, Health, LEAP, and disability common fund, as well as community members comprising heads of households, Traditional authorities, Community-based organizations, and opinion leaders. The stakeholder consultation workshop formed the basis of the data collection exercise for the FACIL-ICT project in Ghana.
